November and December news!

Nov 07 2017 Published by under Uncategorized

Dear friends,

Thanks for checking in!

I’m excited to be involved with a few interesting projects coming up:

First and foremost, Sebastien Ammann’s Color Wheel’s first tour to Europe in early 2018, promoting our first album Color Wheel (Skirl Records, 2017), is in preparation and I’ll have more on that soon.
To quench your thirst, the record is available here:
Bandcamp, Itunes, Amazon and physically at Downtown Music Gallery in New York City.

Color Wheel is: Michaël Attias (alto saxophone), myself (piano, composition), Noah Garabedian (bass), Nathan Ellman-Bell (drums)

On November 19th at 3:30PM, I’ll be playing with a fine band at Scholes Street Studio in Williamsburg taking part in a monthly concert series hosted by the 4X Collective that I am part of.
The band features Caroline Davis (alto saxophone), myself (piano), Matt Aronoff (bass) and Nathan Ellman-Bell (drums). Other sets include Gene Ess’ Trio (1:30PM) and Song Yi Jeon Trio (2:30PM).

I also just met with guitarist Gene Ess to discuss the music of his next record. The recording, scheduled for mid-December will feature Thana Alexa (vocals), Gene Ess (guitar, composition), myself (piano),  Yasushi Nakamura (bass), and Clarence Penn (drums).

These next few weeks are also incredibly busy, as I am finalizing the work on my next Artist Visa that hopefully will grant me another 3 years in the United States. Fingers crossed!

I hope to see you soon!

To new beginnings (clink!)

Feb 19 2016 Published by under Uncategorized

Dear friends!

2016 has been so far a year of new beginnings and exciting prospects .

First of all, I moved from the apartment in which I spent my first 7 years in New York to a new place in Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn. That apartment was my very first landing spot in the City, thanks to my great friend and mentor, then only an acquaintance, Ohad Talmor.
I’m not going to attempt to sum up the amount of important life moments that happened in that place. That would, without a doubt, take up a few hundred pages! Thanks to Ohad, who established the building as a place where music and art rule, my apartment was a place that saw the birth of my projects (Sebastien Ammann Quartet, Color Wheel), enabled countless “sessions”  and rehearsals with friends and heros, heavy hangs that resulted in deep realizations and understandings that contributed to shape my concepts about music and life today, and also first meetings with people that over the years have become close friends. I could not have dreamed of a better place to land in New York City. That spot has been very important in my developement as an artist. Thank you Ohad!

I’m also lucky to have found a very nice new place which I feel will be home for a while.

2016 has already been a productive year so far:

Trumpeter Jake Henry and myself have started a new band with Chris van Voorst van Beest on bass and Max Goldman on drums. Our first show is scheduled on May 10th as part of James Carney’s Konceptions Music Series at Korzo (Park Slope).

Also coming up is Color Wheel‘s first shows of this year at IBeam (February 28th at 8pm) and the Firehouse Space (April 7th at 8pm). Our first record is due to come out this year, so keep your eyes and ears open!

I’m excited to also be a part of  an upcoming performance with a co-lead project with trombonist Samuel Blaser featuring some of my favorite musicians: Oscar Noriega (reeds), Michael Bates (bass), Devin Gray (drums). We’ll be at Ibeam on February 27th at 8:30pm.

On March 4th at IBeam, I will be sharing a double bill with trumpeter Jake Henry’s band Sweet Talk with a trio featuring drummer Dayeon Soek and bassist Lim Yang.

I can’t wait to make music with all these inspiring people and I hope to see you at these performances!

Coming Up!

Dec 11 2015 Published by under Uncategorized

After a very inspiring trip to Portugal to play with João Guimaraes, Marcos Cavaleiro and Diogo Dinis at the Porta Jazz Festival in Porto, here I am, back in Brooklyn, preparing the next show with Samuel Blaser / Sebastien Ammann.

Ou next concert will be on December 13th at 8:30pm at Cornelia Street Café and will feature some of my favorite musicians: Samuel Blaser is an incredibly talented trombonist who is also a master storyteller. He gives the simplest phrase so much meaning and deapth that you want to know what’s coming next! Michael Blake is so soulful! His sound is big and round and his musical ideas draw you in to his sonic world. Masa Kamaguchi is a magician who gives you the impression you’re seeing clearly through thick fog and makes anybody that plays with him sound incredible. Billy Mintz will blow you away, no doubt, by doing almost nothing. He’s got it all! His touch is extremely subtle and controled, and he can play so soft you can barely hear him, yet he makes the band swing like no one.

I’m very lucky to be working with these stellar artists!

I hope to see you there!

Color Wheel is on the move!

May 01 2015 Published by under Uncategorized

Dear Friends,

Thanks for checking in!

Color Wheel just recorded it’s first album and were excited to share our new music with you soon!
Thanks to all of you who made it out to our recent concert at SEEDS Brooklyn (my favorite venue to play in New York!)
It’s a great feeling to play with your own band and feel that you can let things go, that everybody in the band is comitted to the music. The music I sat down to write a few months ago has now begone a life of it’s own through the sensitivities and personalities of each band member . Thanks Michaël, Noah and Nathan for your incredible artistry!

Next on the concert calendar will be a improvised concert on May 31st as part of Adam Hopkins’ great series Out Of Your Head at Threes Brewing with Matt Holman (trumpet), Nico Soffiato (guitar) and Sam Ospovat (drums) and then a co-lead band with my friend Sammi Blower at Cornelia Street Café with Billy Minz (drums), Michaël Attias (alto sax), Sammi Blower (trombone) and John Hébert (bass). Can’t wait!

I hope to see you soon at one of these events!

‘Til next time!

Dear Friends!

Thanks for visiting my website!

The Sebastien Ammann Quartet celebrated the release of the record Samadhi (Freshsound New Talent) by traveling to Europe last March and playing in Paris (Sunside), Lisbon (Hot Club), Porto (Porta Jazz), Lausanne (Blew Note), Geneva (AMR Jazz Festival) and Barcelona (Jamboree).

What a great experience for me to spend that time in the company of some of my favorite musicians and get to play music with them every night for a whole week: Ohad Talmor, Dave Ambrosio and Eric McPherson

The tour was very successful and on top of the enthusiastic response our music received from audiences around Europe, we were featured in a page-long article in the Tribune de Genève (Switzerland) (link to come soon…)

At this time, I am working on new compositions for the next album. Stay tuned!

Please check my calendar for upcoming performances and news!
